Almost Like Handmade! Introduction to New Gassen Paper

Handmade-like expressive power achieved! Introducing the new gasen paper: Hakurokuten and Souten
Thanks to a special manufacturing method, these papers offer expressive qualities close to handmade paper!
Since they are machine-made, they are also highly cost-effective—another strong recommendation point.
Here, we introduce these two new products: Hakurokuten and Souten.

How they differ from conventional machine-made gasen paper

The major difference lies in the wider range of expressive power in nijimi (ink spreading) and kasure (dry-brush effects).
With these papers, it is possible to express nijimi and kasure that were not achievable with conventional machine-made paper, making them ideal for advanced practice and finished works.
The ink penetrates firmly, allowing for subtle light-ink expression, while also producing beautiful ink tones.

Features of Hakurokuten

Hakurokuten is a gasen paper with no unevenness in pulp distribution and a beautiful grain pattern. This gives works a sense of depth and refined texture!
It comes in two types: standard thickness and thick type.
The standard is recommended for general use, while the thick type is better for those with strong brush pressure or who prefer less nijimi.

Souten paper
Souten

Features of Souten

Like Hakurokuten, Souten has no uneven pulp distribution and shows a beautiful grain pattern. However, it is made with finer, softer fibers that allow the ink to penetrate all the way through, producing elegant nijimi.
It can also express the boundary line (kisen) between sizing (alum) and nijimi.

For those who want to try a gasen paper different from conventional machine-made paper, or those looking for cost-effective practice paper, these two products are highly recommended.
Hakurokuten is available in hanshi (half-sheet) size, both standard and thick, as well as hansetsu (half-cut) size in standard thickness.

We invite you to try them.
