Collection: Mounting Brush
For a Beautiful Finish
Once you’ve created a calligraphy piece you’re happy with, you’ll want to enjoy displaying it in your own way.
A brush is used to apply glue thinly and evenly onto the backing paper that will be attached to the back of the work.
Over time, the ink dries and inevitably causes unevenness in the paper’s surface.
To correct this, there is a process called “backing” (Urauchi).
By pressing the work onto a larger sheet of paper moistened with a spray bottle, you give it just the right amount of moisture, stretch out the wrinkles, and smooth it.
Use the brush to remove any excess wrinkles and create a smooth, beautiful surface.
In addition to removing wrinkles, the brush is also used to apply glue when attaching Japanese paper to the back of the work for reinforcement.
When held upright, the brush can tap; when laid flat, it can smooth like stroking.
Apply the glue evenly, and with careful brushwork, you can achieve a beautiful finish.
