Collection: Tanzaku Hanger (Poem Strip Display)

Enjoy Haiku and Tanka with Tanzaku Displays

Japanese people have long cherished the tradition of composing and appreciating waka poetry, including tanka and haiku.
Even today, these poetic forms continue to be written and enjoyed. Here, we introduce tanzaku display accessories that allow you to showcase your poetry easily and elegantly.

What Are Tanka and Haiku?

Since ancient times, composing waka has been an essential part of Japanese culture, serving as a refined means of communication—much like letters or messages today.
Tanka is a poetic form structured in a 5-7-5-7-7 syllabic pattern, while haiku follows a concise 5-7-5 structure.
Haiku traditionally includes a seasonal word (kigo), and often reflects nature or the changing seasons.
Within these brief verses, a uniquely Japanese sense of wabi-sabi is expressed, requiring not only clear expression but also sensitivity to subtle, implied meaning.

Choosing a Display According to Tanzaku Size

Tanzaku used for tanka and haiku are generally available in two widths: a standard width (approximately 6 cm) and a slightly wider type (approximately 7.5 cm).
Tanzaku holders are designed to match these sizes, with options that accommodate both standard and wide formats, as well as holders made specifically for wide tanzaku.
Please select the display style that best suits the size of your tanzaku and your preferred presentation.
