How to Choose Indei

Guidelines for selecting colors:
Kōmyō … A bright vermilion, suitable for gentle impressions in kana and kanji works
Senzoku … A vivid yellow-tinged vermilion, giving an elegant impression and suitable for versatile works
Birei … A deeper red, ideal for kanji works with a calm impression

Tips for Applying Indei to Seal Stones

Kneading Indei before use

Indei should not be used as is. First, mix it well from the bottom with a spatula.
Knead the Indei into a rounded, dumpling-like shape so it can adhere evenly to the seal.
The trick to applying it neatly is to lightly tap the seal stone against the Indei.
If you apply too much, the lines of the seal surface will blur. Too little, and the impression won’t appear clearly.
Be careful not to use too much or too little.
