Collection: Ink for Rubbing (Takuhon Ink)

TAKUHONYO

Ink Specially Made for Rubbings (Takuhon)

Takuhon, or stone rubbing, is a traditional technique used to reproduce inscriptions, reliefs, and textures from stone monuments and other carved objects. This specialized ink is formulated to capture the fine uneven surfaces and subtle details that define rubbings.

Here, we introduce ink made for dry rubbings, which uses soft tampons or pads to bring out the raised and recessed portions of the surface. Ink for wet rubbings—a method that involves moistening paper and tamping it onto the object—is also available. Please select the appropriate ink according to the type of rubbing you intend to create.

Takuhon ink is essential for producing clear contrasts, crisp impressions, and faithful reproductions of historical inscriptions and carved patterns. Whether for conservation work, academic study, or artistic expression, choosing the right rubbing ink will greatly enhance the accuracy and quality of your results.
