KAKIZOME

Kakizome Paper (Yatsugiri / One-Eighth Size)

For kakizome—the traditional Japanese practice of writing the first calligraphy of the New Year—the standard format is the yatsugiri (one-eighth) size. It is also known as kakizome paper or quarter hansetsu (1/4 hansetsu).

This size is especially popular for school calligraphy assignments and is widely used by children learning brush writing at the start of the year.
