Choose the Largest Mat Possible

A calligraphy mat is placed under hanshi or gassen paper.
There are several standard sizes, and normally you choose one that matches the size of the paper placed on top.
For example, the Bino-ban mat measures 28×38 cm.
However, if there’s no space to place a copy model or reference, it can be quite inconvenient, so it’s best to choose the largest mat possible.

Felt and Lasha

There are two types of materials, each with its own features.
Please choose according to your preferred thickness and texture.
Felt mats, with a luxurious and voluminous feel,
are made by compressing animal hair, making them soft and highly water-repellent.
Lasha mats are less expensive than felt, durable, and resistant to wrinkling,
so they can be folded for carrying and are washable, offering practical advantages.
