Text Series: Han-Dynasty Clerical Script 5 – Stele of Zhang Qian (Hyakunō Edition)

This is an extremely simple style among Han Dynasty steles. The characters are generally flat or square. Compared to other steles, this one is more square. The upper part of each character is large, giving the impression of a solid, stable character.
Japanese scholar Kusakabe Meikaku studied this stele during the Meiji period and became a sensation. Many people favored this style, including Yi Bingshou, Weng Tonghe, and He Shaoji, who studied it and established their own unique clerical script styles.
