Sekishu Banshi
Sekishu Banshi is the collective term for paper made in the Sekishu Tsuwano and Hamada domains.
Since ancient times, the western part of Iwami Province (present-day Shimane Prefecture) has had active diplomatic relations with Korea and China, and Sekishu Banshi has been produced there since ancient times.
The Shokei and Engishiki of the Taiho Code list Sekishu Banshi as tribute from the Iwami region to the central government.
Osaka merchants primarily used it for account books and, in the event of a fire, quickly threw it into a well to preserve it, demonstrating the fine and durable characteristics of Sekishu Banshi.
