Carve Seals Safely and with Greater Control

For safe and efficient seal engraving, using an Inshō (seal holder or seal vise) is highly recommended.
It securely fixes the seal stone in place, replacing the need to hold it with your left hand and allowing you to carve with stable pressure and improved accuracy.
Beginners often experience carving knives slipping due to unfamiliar technique, but a seal holder greatly reduces this risk.
It is especially useful when working with small or narrow seal stones that are difficult to grip by hand.

Types of Seal Holders

Seal holders are mainly available in two types: screw type and wedge type.
The screw type tightens easily and is simple for beginners to handle.
The wedge type is secured with a mallet, making it highly durable and resistant to loosening during carving.
Please choose the appropriate holder size according to the dimensions of the seal material you plan to carve.
