Yatsugiri Size Calligraphy Felt Mat

Collection: Yatsugiri Size Calligraphy Felt Mat

Choose a Calligraphy Mat That Matches Your Work

A calligraphy mat is placed beneath hanshi or gasen paper during writing practice.
There are several standard sizes, and the mat is usually selected to match the paper placed on top.
When writing on yatsugiri paper, a yatsugiri-size mat (approximately 22.5 × 75 cm) is appropriate. Yatsugiri paper is one-eighth the size of a full sheet.
Since writing can become inconvenient without extra space for placing a model text or reference, choosing the largest mat possible is recommended.

Felt and Lasha Types

Each of the two main materials has its own characteristics.
Choose according to your preferred thickness and texture.
Felt mats are known for their luxurious feel and thickness.
They are made by compressing animal hair fibers and are valued for their softness and excellent water repellency.
Lasha mats are more affordable, made from durable woven fabric, and are resistant to wrinkles.
They are convenient for folding, carrying, and washing, making them practical for everyday use.
