Sunmatsuan Shikishi for Copying Ancient Calligraphy

"Sunmatsuan Shikishi" is famous as one of the three shikishi, along with "Tsugishikishi" and "Masu Shikishi."
It was named after a fragment of this shikishi was handed down to Sakuma Sanekatsu's teahouse, Sunmatsuan.
Originally a book bound with plaster leaves containing transcriptions of poems on the four seasons from the "Kokin Wakashu," it is said to have been written by Ki no Tsurayuki.
The brushwork is free-flowing and rich in intonation, making it an elegant and refined classic that many people study.
