Calligraphy Classics Series Vol. 8: Seventeen Model Letters (Mitsui Edition)
Calligraphy Classics Series Vol. 8: Seventeen Model Letters (Mitsui Edition)
In contrast to the "Ueno Edition," which features gentle brushstrokes, the "Mitsui Edition" features a section known as a "broken stroke" where the direction of the dots and strokes changes. While some critics have found this unnatural, it is a beloved masterpiece, chosen by many masters, as exemplified by its owner, Kusakabe Meikaku, who praised it for its "meticulous engraving and vibrant color." The entire text has been restored to its original size, with outlines indicating the strokes for each character. Each page includes an explanatory text and a Japanese translation, and the end of the book includes a modern Japanese translation, commentary, character shapes and stroke order, and sections suitable for copying. This is an excellent example for learning cursive calligraphy.
