Calligraphy Classics Series Vol. 24: “Self-Written Appointment” & “General Pei’s Poem”
Calligraphy Classics Series Vol. 24: “Self-Written Appointment” & “General Pei’s Poem”
This is the 24th volume of a 30-volume series. "Self-Written Takshin," also known as the "Jianzhong Tsaoshin Tsao," is a masterpiece that fully displays Yan Zhenqing's signature style of regular script, including the "facing force" and "silkworm head swallowtail" patterns. While it was inscribed in several calligraphy works, this is a reproduction of the "Qiubidang Tsao," renowned for its most meticulous inscription. "General Pei's Poem" is written in a style known as "broken style" or "mixed style," blending regular, running, and cursive script. It is taken from the "Zhongyi Tsao," a collection handed down from Yang Shoujing to Kusakabe Meikaku and Hidai Tenrai. "General Pei's Poem" includes a skeleton for every character. It is a meticulously edited book, including a modern translation, character shapes and stroke order, and an introduction to sections suitable for copying.
