Tsugishikishi: Copying Ancient Calligraphy

"Tsugishikishi" is one of the three famous shikishi, along with "Sunshoan Shikishi" and "Masu Shikishi," and was originally a booklet bound with neba (rubber-like leaves).
It is said to have been written in the style of Michi Ono. In addition to the plain paper, writing paper dyed in purple, brown, green, indigo, and yellow is used. Two sheets of writing paper are used for each waka poem, with the first verse written on one half and the second verse written on the other. The beautiful composition and ink-colored margins, and the light and nimble strokes make this an ancient calligraphy technique essential for the art of kana.
