Starting with the Basics of Stops, Feathers, and Strokes

Crisp, pure white paper.
Low resistance allows for a smooth, comfortable brush stroke, making it easy to write with even for beginners.
The uniformly finished quality provides a consistent writing feel, and stops, feathers, and strokes are easy to understand, making it ideal for beginner calligraphy students and school-age children.
Standard thickness paper has less resistance, allowing for smoother writing. It is recommended for around six characters on hanshi paper.
Thick paper is recommended for around four characters on hanshi paper, while extra-thick paper is recommended for around two characters, as the ink does not penetrate deep even with generous application, making it easier to create a rubbing effect.

Differences in Expression Depending on Thickness

Machine-made hanshi paper for school kanji writing.
Due to its high pulp content, the paper is particularly white and suitable for school practice.
It features minimal bleeding and a slight ink penetration.
Paper thicknesses are classified as "normal, heavy, and extra-thick." The normal thickness allows for more nimble writing than the heavy and extra-thick varieties.
It is widely used for practice in classes and calligraphy schools.
