What is Hosho Paper?
Hosho paper is a thick paper made from kozo.
Its basic structure is the same as kozo paper, but it is made stronger and thicker by adding ingredients such as hollyhock root and white clay.
Echizen hosho paper is famous, and it is said that the Muromachi shogunate used this paper for official documents, hence the name "hosho" (orders).
Later, the technique spread throughout the country, and hosho paper was produced in various regions. It is still used today, primarily for ceremonial purposes, including Shinto prayers.
