Video of Inking Shodo Ichiban (Extra Thick) Hanshi

*The ink used in this video is Rin Ink (regular ink), and the brush is a Shuhitsudo Kochiku.

*To those purchasing Shodo Ichiban half-sheet paper*

Due to the closure of a manufacturer of wire mesh, which is essential for machine-made paper production, domestic machine-made paper factories have been gradually switching from wire mesh to resin mesh since around 2019. (Shodo Ichiban will be changed at the end of 2020.)
Please note that while the change in mesh will affect the paper's texture, it will not affect the paper's quality.
Please note that any texture irregularities resulting from the difference in mesh will gradually disappear.

*About Paper Smearing*

Machine-made paper is adjusted for smearing approximately 2-3 months after production, with the expectation that it will be used. The finished paper is typically left to age at the factory for several months before shipping. However, due to the impact of COVID-19, papermaking factories are currently adjusting their workdays and personnel, resulting in freshly made paper being shipped.
As a result, unlike before the pandemic, paper is more prone to smearing.
Please note that smearing will disappear after allowing the paper to age for approximately 2-3 months.

Practice paper with a smooth brush stroke

Machine-made hanshi paper for school kanji writing. Suitable for a wide range of uses, from practice for school children to final drafts (entering calligraphy competitions).
The paper quality minimizes bleeding and has a slightly smooth surface, making it easy to write on.
Its firm texture makes it tear-resistant even when writing powerful lines.
Affordable and high-quality, you can use it with confidence.
This is a hanshi paper that can be used for practice by school children and the general public.
*The paper has a hanshi grain.

High-quality paper that is resistant to bleeding and can be used safely

Even among machine-made paper, Shodo Ichiban has almost no bleeding, even when you stop writing.
This practice paper is safe for those who want to write slowly while following a model.

Differences in Expression Depending on Thickness

Normal-thick paper allows the ink to spread easily horizontally and requires less ink, allowing for lighter brush strokes.
It is also more prone to bleeding than thick paper.
If you want to avoid bleeding, choose thicker paper.
To minimize bleeding, you can increase the ink concentration.

Thick paper allows the ink to penetrate deeper into the paper, resulting in less bleeding and a sense of depth in the ink color.
Thick paper requires more ink, and because it causes less bleeding, it is easier to create rubbing effects.
If you want to avoid rubbing, choose normal-thick paper.

We encourage you to try out the regular and extra-thick paper and compare the benefits of each.
