"Paper Thickness Affects Ink Expression"

The writing feel varies slightly depending on the thickness of the paper.
The thicker the paper, the deeper the ink penetrates into the paper. This creates depth in the ink color and makes it easier to express strength.
On the other hand, because it absorbs ink well, brush movements become sluggish.
A larger amount of ink is required, and the ink tends to smudge more easily.

Thinner paper allows ink to reach the back of the paper more easily, making it easier to express sharpness.
Furthermore, it absorbs ink less well than thicker paper, allowing for lighter brush movements when writing.

Cotton-based Tan Xuan is the standard type.
Xuan paper is made with a raw material mix of approximately 30% sandalwood bark and approximately 70% rice straw.
Due to the higher rice straw content, it tends to have more bleed than pure-bark Tan Xuan.
