Collection: Liquid Sumi Ink for Kana Calligraphy
Fine Ink for the Delicate Art of Kana
Ink used for kana calligraphy is specially formulated and differs from ink made for kanji.
So, what sets kana ink apart?
Kana ink is created with ultra-fine soot particles and premium glue (nikawa) or resin.
This formulation ensures smooth, flowing strokes and clean, delicate lines—qualities essential for writing small kana characters and classical styles such as kohitsu (ancient kana manuscripts).
For small-scale kana works or detailed manuscript-style writing, we recommend choosing smaller bottle sizes to preserve freshness and optimal performance.
For larger scroll-style kana pieces, excellent options include “Tomoshibi,” “Saoshika,” and the expressive “Kasen (Blue Ink)” and “Kasen (Brown Ink),” each offering unique tonal variations suited for artistic expression.
